I'm so pleased I'm able to get out and about to the wineries again this season! After ending last year's winery visits with this fun post, My Year of Winery Road Trips and Top Picks, I am eager to get started on this year's list. I started off with Ladoga Ridge Winery, simply because it was located near Smithville Lake where we were camping for the weekend.
According to the website, "Ladoga Ridge Winery is a family-owned and operated winery and vineyards operation. Longtime Smithville residents Galen and Leinda Haddock invested much thought, time and hard physical labor to develop this business - literally, from the ground up."
The service at the tasting bar was very good and we learned quite a bit about the wines they offer. My top pick for this visit was the Norton, with the Traminette a close second. One great red and one excellent white, which is what I like to find. I bought the Norton and enjoyed it fireside on the camping trip.
The shop, tasting room, and outdoor seating area that over looked the vineyard are all very nicely done. They have events year round on the vineyard grounds, or you can come anytime for tastings and to purchase a bottle. Check them out at www.ladogaridgewinery.com!
