This past weekend I road tripped to St. Louis to see my mother for her birthday, and on the way I made a little stop off of the highway to visit a well known winery I have been anxious to see, and of course to pick up a nice wine for the birthday celebration. Les Bourgeois Winery did not disappoint me in either the wines I tried, nor in the scenery and views the winery offers.
I tried the four wine flight, with my hostess for the tasting selecting four very good wines from the many they create. I of course had the Collectors Series Chambourcin, my ususal favorite Missouri red, but this time my favorite was a bottle of their Burning Barrel Norton Reserve. This is the wine I chose to bring along, and I have to say, everyone loved it!
I am also a fan of wine labels, so I was happy to notice that the bottles in the collector series had several artists' work featured. I tasted inside the main dining room bar, which was quiet and relaxing in the mid afternoon. My hostess was very knowledgeable and friendly as well.
After the tasting, I walked over to the more casual A frame building and decks that overlook the Missouri River. The view was great, the weather was perfect, and the people were friendly. I had homemade soft pretzel snacks and another taste of the white I liked, the Vignoles-Traminette.
