This weekend a group of people from a large social group I am a part of headed out to Paola, Kansas to try out the wineries. It was a beautiful day hanging out with friends and meeting a couple of new friends as well. The first on the trip was Nighthawk winery, and I have to say that out of the three we visited, this one was by far the prettiest. The outdoor seating area was a pretty patio, and the grounds were beautifully landscaped. You soon forget the long, dusty, gravel road you just traveled to get there!
The wines were very nice, and the woman doing our tasting was very descriptive and helpful when discussing the wines. My favorite, as always was the Chambourcin. I ordered a glass after the tasting and sat with friends on the patio for some good conversation. I also want to give credit for the Vidal Blanc. It was perfectly crisp and fresh and tasted especially good on a very hot day!
I usually avoid blush wines, but the Wildfire Blush deserves a mention. It was not like the usual blush, not as sweet, and it will be the next bottle of wine I purchase when I return to Nighthawk Vineyard and Winery.
